The Fix

I went to see the shrinks.

They proposed to fix me

so I could fit the broken world.

They offered pills

to harness my feelings,

so I’d feel no pain

going to war.

The light inside of me

would no longer cast shadows

on their lies.

The beauty I seek

would no longer smudge

their dinner tables.

The soul that wanders

would be gently rocked to sleep.

I went to see the shrinks

and told them

I’m just fine.
